How We Develop Recipes
I often get asked how we develop the recipes you see on RecipeTinEasy. The short answer is simple: every recipe must meet our strict quality standards. Today, I’m excited to pull back the curtain and share a behind-the-scenes look at how it all comes together!
From the Beginning… to Today
RecipeTinEasy started with a simple, personal goal to share easy, delicious recipes with my family and friends. Over time, that small project grew into a thriving digital brand with a passionate community of food lovers, YouTube channel, and many exciting projects on the horizon.
No matter how much the site evolves, one thing will always remain my top priority: ensuring my recipes work beautifully in your kitchen from the very first try.
How We Choose Recipes
Every recipe begins with an idea usually sparked during weekly content meetings with my small team, led by my content manager. During these sessions, we review our editorial calendar and consider several important factors:
Seasonality & Ingredient Availability: Are the ingredients currently in season and easy to find in local markets? We always prioritize fresh, seasonal, and natural ingredients whenever possible.
Simplicity: I truly believe cooking should never be complicated. Most of our recipes can be made with basic kitchen tools that you likely already have at home.
How We Test Recipes
Once an idea is selected, I write the first draft and start testing it in my own kitchen. Most recipes go through 1 to 2 rounds of testing before being published. Why? Because I want to ensure every recipe is foolproof especially those that use pricier ingredients like fresh seafood or premium cuts of meat.
Recently, I’ve started working with a professional food photographer who also helps with styling and prepping the dishes. This extra layer of quality control ensures each recipe is fully ready for the website.
How We Shoot Recipe Videos
To this day, I still film and edit all of my YouTube recipe videos myself and yes, it’s a lot of work! But I love preserving my personal filming style, which reflects the way I naturally cook and teach in the kitchen.
Short-form videos like YouTube Shorts are typically filmed on my phone during recipe testing sessions, then edited by my content manager before we publish them.
Do We Update Older Recipes?
Absolutely! I regularly review older recipes to ensure they’re still accurate and high-quality. Sometimes we update ingredients or instructions based on reader feedback. Other times, we re-shoot the photos to match the site’s updated visual style.
